More current must-haves

Ballet flats

I seem to be living in them. Okay, it’s also all the walking on cobble stones, all the driving, all the running errands, but still. I’m oddly not reaching automatically for the heels. I’m in flats most of the time.

Pencil skirts

I have the same skirt: narrow, below knee, open at the side all the way to mid-thigh, in three colors. I wear them a lot. Usually with flats.

My emerald green shoulder bag

Yup, that’s the bag of the month. I always get stuck on a handbag, and keep using the same one for days and weeks even. This one’s roomy enough for all my stuff, elegant enough for work and drinks afterwards and casual enough to go with jeans and t-shirt.

Must-Haves, part Post-Summer Tuesday, Aug 25 2009

Current Must-Haves in my life:

Chanel jackets

I keep looking at others in the stores, but in the end, I end up with the staple of my grand-méres closet. Boxy or fitted, pockets or piping or color, they’re all good, and I love them. They go with everything, for everything. I just cannot find a better one. My current favourites: the ones with 3/4 sleeve.

Patricia Kaas

I can’t stop listening to her album Kabaret.

BF

He’s off to States soon. So spending every moment I can with him.

Paint samples

I’m decorating the new apartment.

Iris by Kalevala Koru.

How can a piece of jewellery, one that is for the mass market and therefor not custom made, be so perfectly fitting? Down to the name of the piece?

Ski Guy’s friend Elf-K.

That guy’s seriously hilariously funny! Might share some stories later…

Well, you asked… Monday, Apr 27 2009

I’ve spent a lot of time and energy talking about Generation Kill lately. And you’re asking me why. Well, mon petites, because…

it has the one in the middle in this video (Warning! Do not open this link while at work!) in US Marine battle gear, all cool and professional and lethal and ‘frosty’. Which is to say, ’steaming hot’.

And yes, I did label this post as “Must Have”. Of course, I’m talking about the DVD box set. Nothing more!

Must Haves: Things I do NOT want to hear right now Friday, Apr 24 2009

- Wish you were here from BF. Yes, I wish I was there too. You’re living the best time of your life, having a blast, and I’m stuck running ARCH analysis on a time series data. I wish I was there too, and saying it doesn’t make it any easier.

- Are you done yet? in relation to my school work. No, I’m not done yet! I have a ton of things I didn’t tell you about to do, because I screwed up earlier, and didn’t want to tell you. So no, I’m not done. I’ll tell you when I’m done.

- Could you do this/see that this is done? about some project or another. I don’t have time for anything extra right now, and I don’t want to say no, so please don’t ask.

- I think you drink too much coffee. I know I do, you saying it won’t change a thing. Now give my my coffee.

Must Haves: things I simply HAVE to get Thursday, Apr 9 2009

- Generation Kill on DVD. I love that show. I don’t want to get the book and read that, most likely, as I’m not too keen on reading the gory details. But I love the show. And while I’m getting all confessional and all, I might as well admit that I find the Marine battle gear totally sexy. Not in a “oooh, that’s a big gun!” way, but I think it’s hot when the guys are all decked out in their gear. I think that gives us Reason 462 on Why ii Should Never Join The Military. I’d jump half the guys as soon as I make visual contact with them.

- Milk. I have to get milk, I’m completely out. And no store is open tomorrow, and I need my daily coffee in a pace that cannot be achieved without the cooling effect of a dash of milk. ‘Add milk, drink more coffee faster’, you know?

- on that note: Food. I’m out. Someone’s eating all my food around here.

- Time. I have too much to do, no self-discipline to speak of, and way too little time to do it. You do the math.

- Henry back. Ski Guy still has my camera, after Val d’Isere, and I really need to get it back.

Must Haves: Currently Going Thursday, Apr 2 2009

Edith Piaf

I can’t seem to stop listening to her. Of course classics like La Vie En Rose, but also Les Trois Cloches has been on replay.

Marimekko shoulder bag

Mine’s black, about 8 years old, and still in perfect condition despite regular use. It’s surprisingly spacious, fits a folder for A4-size papers or a laptop, has handy pockets for cell phone and iPod and stuff, and goes with everything. The strap can be adjusted so the bag can be used as a shoulder bag or a messenger bag across your body. What with my recent very mobile life, with places to go to all the time, this is very convenient!

Moleskin day-planner

in red leather. Couldn’t live without it. It’s stylish and pretty.

De-cluttering

I have too much stuff, so I’m getting rid of lots of it. Including clothes, books and dishware. Call it my kind of cleaning, or a bad reaction to helping other people move. Or maybe I’m just gearing up for my imminent move? Who knows! All I care about is that there’s less stuff in my apartment in the evening than there was in the morning of that day.

Word document calendar on a desktop file

A convenient way of showing the entire month at one glance. Also, an easy way to house all those To Do -lists and schedule things I need to do by a certain deadline. I don’t like to do the scheduling bit (Monday: do project A, Tuesday: finish B, start on C, check up on M…) on my day-planner, it’s full enough as it is with all the other info. The scheduling goes into the Word document where it’s easy to see for a longer period in one go, and easy to change.

Must-have: lip balm Saturday, Feb 14 2009

Okay, I don’t know if I’ve ever said this, but I’m addicted on moisturizing. And that extends to my lips. So I have lip balms stuck in practically every purse and coat pocket. You can try, but I seriously doubt you’ll ever find me further than an arms reach of one. Here’s two of my favourites.

Nuxe Rêve de Miel lib balm by Nuxe Paris. I cannot praise this one enough. It’s incredible. nuxe-reve-de-miel-lip-balm1Made of natural products and with care for the environment, the lib balm is soft textured, smells amazing, stays on your lips even if you eat. It’s not sticky, it’s not too slick but you can actually put makeup over it without fearing it’ll be on your chin in five minutes. The soft scent together with the honey taste (come on! like we all haven’t eaten a little lip balm every now and then!) makes this a pure pleasure to use. Plus the package is really cute! (I hate those tin jars.)

My second favourite is the Eucerin lip balm stick. Most convenient, travels well, easy to apply. Like Nuxe’s, it won’t get all sticky and glue-y on your lip (you know, the kind where your hair gets stuck in?), but has a bit more liquid feel to it, so I let it absorb well before applying anything on it. But, I strongly recommend them both! (Especially Nuxe Rêve de Miel. It’s heavenly.)

Must Haves: Music Sunday, Feb 1 2009

In no particular order:

- In Her Eyes by Josh Groban

- B. Y. O. B. by System of a Down

- Santa María by Gotan Project

- Honey, Honey from Mamma Mia! OST

- Goodnight Moon by Shivaree

I know you’re all wondering how can anyone be as amazing and captivating as me. *grin* So, I thought I’d share some of my secrets here on my blog.

One thing I absolutely adore is moisturisers. Living in Finland for a large part of the year, I’m exposed to some cold and trying weather. So moisture, for my skin and my hair, is important. And let’s face it, dry skin just looks bad! Especially since it’s so easy to fix.

My secret no. 1 therefore is the ultimate moisturizer for skin. While Dove is good (The soap to use!), the best moisturizer isn’t from the cosmetics department. It’s from the baby aisle.

Seriously! Spreads well, won’t leave a greasy residue and feeling on you, won’t stain your clothes as it’s immediately absorbed… I love this stuff! And it’s good even to sensitive skin. (Hello! It’s for babies!)

Must-haves Tuesday, Dec 9 2008

I figured I’d start a new category. Must-haves. I guess it was inspired by my post about sponging and the influences we get. And partly about someone saying recently that I have an awesome wardrobe. (I do.) But, I thought I’d start to keep this irregularly regular journal of what’s currently a must-have in my life. Of course there’s going to be clothes, but there’s also some other things, like books or hobbies or whatnot. For this first post, though, I’ll make one about my all-time permanent fashion must-haves.

1) Chanel suit. Seriously, you can wear it casual or fancy, just the skirt, just the jacket, in all sorts of combinations. It’s my go-to outfit. It never looks bad or out of place. (Trust me, I wore the jacket to a hockey game, and it worked.)

2) Heels. In particular Christian Louboutin black pumps with stiletto heel. Again, there’s no place, outside of tennis court, where these would be wrong.

3) Scarves. I love them. From vintage silk scarves from Hermès to the hand-knit huge ones I’ve made myself to the lacy barely-there evening wraps, I love them. In fact, I can rarely be seen without one. If ever. Well, I don’t wear one to bed. Usually.

4) 50’s. I love the 50’s silhouettes, from the sleek and narrow pencil skirt to the über-feminine full skirt and tiny waist. The coordinated hats and gloves and shoes. I love being a woman, and I love dressing like one.

5) My vintage lace LBD. It’s a timeless dress, with black lace on black satin. It has an open neckline, comes down to my knees, it fits like a glove. It’s timeless in shape and material. It’s one of those magnificent pieces of clothing that speaks volumes, in most delicate of whispers. Those are rare in these days.
